From the Assistant Principal’s Desk - Ms. Strever

Wow! February already! We have been fortunate that through the first few months of this winter to have no disruptions with snow days. With luck, the remainder of the cold weather months will continue with no snow.

Positive Behavior Intervention and Support is our school-wide strategy for helping all students achieve important social and learning goals. As part of PBIS, we have been establishing clear rules for the behavior we expect in all areas of our school. We teach those expectations to the students and reward them with positive praise, notes, and recognition for their great behavior. The expected behaviors are included in our morning announcements for all students. The last week of January, we held assemblies for all grade levels to go over our new TRACKS Matrix, which has been developed by the PBIS Team at Frenchtown. The matrix is included on the back of this page, and will be posted throughout the school. It includes expected behavior for all areas of the school and the bus. We have scheduled, for 4th grade students in February and March, the Safe Friendship Workshop Series to be facilitated by staff from the Center for Women and Families. Sessions covered include: (1) Conflict Resolution, (2) Bullying, and (3) Internet Safety. The PBIS Team will be designing specific lessons to teach expectations over the next few months.

Your support is critical in reinforcing the expectations we have here at Frenchtown, and will create a positive tone at home. If you would like to post the matrix on your refrigerator and use the same language, that will provide consistency for your child. We believe that by helping students practice good behavior, we will build a school community where all students have an environment where they can succeed and grow. Thank you for your support!

I hope you all have a relaxing and safe February break.

Sincerely,
Diane Strever
